「理性」には完全に明確で正確な意味がある。それは私達が達成したいと思う目的に対して正しい手段を選ぶということを意味する。理性は目的の選択とは何の関係もないのである。しかし、理性に反対する人々（反理性論者）はこのことを理解せず（悟らず/気づかず）、彼らは、合理主義の擁護者は理性に手段だけでなく目的をも指図させたがっている、と考え る。
"Reason” has a perfectly clear and precise meaning. It signifies the choice of the right means to an end that you wish to achieve. It has nothing whatever to do with the choice of ends. But opponents of reason do not realize this, and think that advocates of rationality want reason to dictate ends as well as means.

理性を過大に評価したり、過小評価したり、人間は「人間の理性の働き」について「理性的に考えること」ができない人が少なくないようです。
相手が自分が気に入らないことを言った場合、冷静に、理性的に反論できない場合、自分は正しいが反論する良い（適切な）言葉を見つけることができないだけだと、考えがちです。
そういった人は政治家や政治的な人間に多いようです。岸田総理の自信（過信）たるや見事なもので・・・？
