美徳を教えるためには偽り（虚偽）を吹き込むことが必要だと一般に考えられている。政治においては，自分の支持政党の著名な政治家の悪徳を隠す。神学においては，カトリックであれば教皇（法王）の罪を隠し，プロテスタントであればルターやカルヴァンの罪を隠す。
It is generally held that the teaching of virtue demands the inculcation of falsehood. In politics, we conceal the vices of eminent statesmen of our own party. In theology, we conceal the sins of Popes if we are Catholics, and the sins of Luther and Calvin if we are Protestants.

政治には駆け引きが必要であり、妥協も必要です。また、失言によって政治的影響力を失わないためには、常に慎重な言葉遣いをする必要があります。ただし、国民を欺くような嘘はついてはダメです。石破総理は清廉潔白をとりえにして総理大臣になりましたが、その「清廉潔白さ」にはほころぼが広がりつつあります。敬虔なプロテスタント（トランプ大統領と同じ）を自称する石破総理ですが、総理大臣の立場なら「嘘も方便」が許されると少しでも思っているのなら、傷口がひろがらないうちに総理大臣をやめたほうがよいでしょう。
Politics requires maneuvering and compromise. Politicians must also be careful with their words at all times in order not to lose political influence due to a verbal misstep. However, telling lies that deceive the public is unacceptable.
Prime Minister Ishiba rose to power on the strength of his reputation for integrity, but cracks are beginning to appear in that image of "purity."
He describes himself as a devout Protestant, like President Trump, but if he believes, even slightly, that "a white lie is acceptable" for someone in the position of Prime Minister, then it would be better for him to step down before the damage spreads any further.
