単一民族国家（nations）と言ってよい日本も、戦前の人口急増期には、多くの国民を養うために、大陸（中国）に進出あるいは侵略しました。多民族国家（states）の場合は、話し合いで多民族国家ができることはほとんどなく、領土拡大欲求は本能的なものと言えそうです。アメリカは西部開拓によって領土を拡大しました。その後は戦争によって一時的にフィリッピンなどを領有したことはありましたが、領土拡大はストップしました。
しかし、トランプ大統領は（マッキンリー大統領にならって）グリーランドやカナダなどを自国に併合したいという野心を持つようになり、帝国主義的な野心を隠していません。トランプ大統領はもうじき79歳です。時間はあまり残されていないので暴走しそうです。
Japan, which can be described as a monoethnic nation (nation), during the pre-war period of rapid population growth, expanded or invaded the continent (China) to support its growing population. In the case of multiethnic states (states), the formation of such states through negotiation is rare, and the desire for territorial expansion appears to be almost instinctive.
The United States expanded its territory through westward expansion. Although it temporarily held territories such as the Philippines through war, territorial expansion eventually came to a halt.
However, President Trump, following in the footsteps of President McKinley, has shown ambitions to annex territories such as Greenland and Canada, openly revealing imperialistic aspirations. President Trump is approaching the age of 79, and with little time left, there is a concern that he might act recklessly.
