【ラッセルはなぜハーバードの某カフェテリアで食事をしたのか？】
ウィリアム・ジョヴァノヴィッチ (1920 -2001) は言う。「いつも食事をしていたハーバード・ヤード近くのカフェテリアは安いがあまり美味しくなかった」と。

Harcourt Brace, & Co. は米国の有名な出版社（ラッセルが亡くなった1970年には William Jovanovich の名をとってHarcourt, Brace, Jovanovichと改称）であり、ラッセルの本もを多数出版しています。ラッセルと同じカフェテリアで食事をした時（1940年秋のはず）、ジョヴァノヴィッチはハーバード大学の学生でした（1920年生まれなので20歳だったはずです）。ラッセルの本を多数だすようになったのはこの時の出会いが影響しているのではないでしょうか？

The winner of the Nobel prize for literature in 1950, Bertrand Russell was best known in recent years for his campaign against war, nuclear bombs and racial discrimination. ... Although he ( = Bertrand Russell ) wrote a book about the mysteries of relativity, he humorously admitted that he could not change a light bulb or understand the workings of an automobile engine. However, he had a reason for everything. William Jovanovich, the American publisher, recalled that as a Harvard student he ate in a cafeteria where the food was cheap and not very good.
