【 宗教と科学は和解・調和可能でしょうか？ 】
その答えは「宗教」が何を意味するかによります。もし、宗教が単に倫理体系を意味するのであれば、科学と和解・調和可能です。もし、宗教が疑いなく真実であると見なされる教義体系を意味するならば、科学的精神とは相容れません。科学的精神は、事実に関する事柄を証拠なしに受け入れることを拒否し、また完全な確実性はほとんど達成できないと考えます。

The answer turns upon what is meant by "religion." If it means merely a system of ethics, it can be reconciled with science. If it means a system of dogma, regarded as unquestionably true, is incompatible with the scientific spirit, which refuses to accept matters of fact without evidence, and also holds that complete certainty is hardly ever attainable.

「宗教」が何を意味するかは、国によって、人によって理解がかなり異なります。
また、「神」や「全知全能」が何を意味するかも、同様に理解が異なります。
ただし、そういったものも、もしも、例えば、英国人が日本で生まれ育てば、日本人と同じような考え方や感性を持つようになり、逆に、日本人が英国で生まれ育てば、英国人と同じような考え方や感性を持つようになります。
自分がどのようにして現在の考え方や感性を持つようになったかよく反省してみるとよさそうです。 #バートランド・ラッセル #Bertrand_Russell
