ラッセルは妻と一緒に一時期、幼児学校（Beacon Hill School）を経営していました。その幼児学校で、ある少年が年少者をいじめているのを見つけ、「どうして弱い者をいじめるのか？」とたしなめた時、その少年は次のように答えたそうです。
「自分より大きな奴が自分をなぐる。そこで私は自分より小さい奴をなぐる。公平だよ。」
この言葉によって,この少年は,「人類の歴史」を要約してみせた。
