ある意味で家族は有機的であるが，同質的な個人の集団はそうではない。両親が我が子を愛するのは主として彼らが非常に多くの面倒をかけるからである。（一方）もし両親が子供達に全く面倒をかけなければ，子供達は親のことを真剣に考えなくなるだろう。・・・。父親がいろんな心配事で悩むこともありうるし，母親が多数かつ多様な細々としたことで疲れ果ててしまうこともあることを知ることは，少年少女にとって良いことである。また，子としての愛情が思春期の間生き生きと保たれるのもよいことである。
It ( = The family) is organic, in a way in which a collection of homogeneous individuals is not. Parents love their children largely because they give so much trouble ; if parents give no trouble to their children, their children will not take them seriously.... It is good for boys and girls to know that their father can be harassed by worries and their mother worn out by a multiplicity of details. And it is good that filial affection should remain alive during adolescence.
