Bertrand Russell Quotes

They (= Mankind) have learned the technique of world-wide mutual destruction but not the more desirable technique of world-wide co-operation. The failure to learn this more desirable technique has its source in emotional limitations, in the confining of sympathy to one's own group, and in indulgence in hatred and fear toward other groups.

* a brief comment:
It is not uncommon to find people whose knowledge is broad but whose emotions are narrow.
Even if they speak about the importance of "compassion," they often lack compassion for those who were raised differently from themselves or for people in countries they consider inferior to their own.
Still, if such people are ordinary citizens, we can simply say, "That's just how the world is," and not be too concerned. But when it comes to politicians, it's a different matter.
An ordinary person lacking compassion may only harm those around them, but a politician lacking compassion can cause harm to a great many citizens.
In particular, President Trump of the United States may be a convenient leader for the Americans who support him, but for those who don't, he is someone to resist, and for many people around the world, he is a troublesome figure.
