　公共の問題も、同様に、先見の明に支配されている。(そのための the law）
法律や警察があり、公教育があり、巨大な政府機構があり、軍隊や海軍や空軍
があり、そしてその構造全体の頂点には、敵対する国民（大衆）を絶滅させる
最も効率的な方法を考えているごく少数の非常に賢い人間がいる。確かに娯楽
を与えること以外には何の目的もない公共支出もごくわずかに存在している。
公共の公園があり、そこには時には、子供たちの楽しみのためにブランコやシ

　「名誉にかなった行為」

　名誉にかなった行為とは、おおざっぱに言えば、その人物が対等な人々
（注：同じ階層・階級の人々）から尊敬されるような行為のことだった。対等
な人々に対しては約束を破れば、彼は評判を落としたが、社会的に下位の者
（社会的に劣る者）に対しては好きなだけ約束を破っても構わなかった。

Honourable behaviour, broadly speaking, was such as caused a man to be
 respected by his equals. If he broke promises to them, he was ill 
thought of, but he might break promises to his social inferiors as 
much as he liked.

＜寸言＞
　安倍総理（当時）は東京都議選における某候補に自分の応援演説にケチをつ
けた都民に対し、「こんな人たちに負けるわけにはいかない」と叫びました。
安倍総理は「こんな 　社会的地位が高い人は「名誉」と言われるものをいっ
ぱいもっていることになっています。従って、そういった名誉をこけにすると
、「名誉毀損」で訴えられる可能性があります。それに対し、社会的地位など
というものはない者は「名誉」などというものはなく、「人間としての名誉を
傷つけられた」と言っても、「名誉はないので、傷つけることはできない」の
で、「人間としてのプライドを傷つけたられた（差別された）」ということに
なりそうです。 　安倍総理（当時）が東京都議選の自分の応援演説にケチを
つけた都民に対し、「"こんな人たち"に負けるわけにはいかない」と言った時
の「こんな人達」というのは、安倍総理（当時）の意識では、「地位も名誉も
お金もなく、批判ばかりしている人達」といったくらいの意味でしょうか？

　さきほどドジャーズ対ブルワーズの第４戦があり、ドジャースが勝利しました。
これでドジャースのワールドシリーズ進出が決まりました。日本の野球はまった
観戦せず、私がテレビやネットで観戦するのはドジャースの大谷翔平が出る試合
だけです。これではとても「野球ファン」とは言えませんが、こういったファン
は、実は日本にも多いのではないでしょうか？

　大谷選手の活躍は目覚ましく、打つのは当たり前の状態のため、大谷選手がホ
ームランあるいは長打を打たない試合はあまり面白くありません。本日の試合で
も、大谷選手は３本のホームランを打ち、大活躍しまし。そのため、大谷選手へ
の期待がますます膨らみ、ヒット１本だけの試合は不完全燃焼のような気分がし
ます。

　我ながら、まったく我儘な観戦態度だと思います。大谷選手もいずれピークを
迎えるでしょうから、、今後も応援できる新たなスター選手が登場しないと、数
年後には野球観戦から遠ざかってしまうかもしれません。

Earlier today, in Game 4 of the Dodgers vs. Brewers series, the Dodgers 
won.
With this victory, the Dodgers have secured their spot in the World Series.
 I don't watch Japanese baseball at all, and the only games I watch on TV
 or online are the ones where Shohei Ohtani plays for the Dodgers. 
This doesn't really qualify me as a "baseball fan," but I imagine there 
are many fans like me in Japan as well.

Ohtani's performance has been nothing short of remarkable, and hitting home
 runs or extra-base hits has become almost expected. As a result, games 
where he doesn't hit a home run or a long hit tend to feel less exciting. 
In today's game, he hit three home runs and was a major contributor. This
 only fuels even greater expectations for him, and I feel a sense of 
unfulfilled excitement when he only gets one hit in a game.

I must admit, my attitude toward watching games is quite selfish. Since 
Ohtani will eventually reach his peak, if new star players don't emerge, 
I might stop watching baseball in a few years.
For Ohtani fans, what kind of fan are you?
