To draw an ellipse, stick two pins into a piece of paper, say an inch
apart, then take a string, say two inches long, and fasten its two
ends to the two pins. All the points that can be reached by drawing the
string taut are on an ellipse of which the two pins are the foci.
[楕円を描くためには，二本のピンを －たとえば一インチ離して－ 紙に刺し,
次に，1本の糸をとりだし －たとえば長さ二インチのもの－ その二つの端を

For instance, there were two doors, on one of which an ellipse was
painted and on the other a circle. If the dog chose the door that had
a circle, it got a good dinner, but if it chose the door that had an
ellipse it got an electric shock. After a certain number of trials,

Kepler in the capacity of distinguishing ellipses from circles. Pavlov

「人間の恐怖心を利用する？」
宗教団体は，ひとつには，人間性に深く埋もれている形而上学的な恐怖心を
静めるために存在している。・・・。
神の意志への服従には究極の安心感があり，それは，単なる地上的な存在に
服従することができない多くの君主における信仰上の卑下に導いたのである
（注：「カノッサの屈辱」など）。他の人の意志や上位の力などに進んで従う
特性は全て恐怖心に根ざすものであり，我々（人i間）が服従する指導者が人
間であろうと神であろうと，変わりはない。
Religious bodies exist in part to allay the metaphysical fears that
are buried deep in our nature. ... In submission to the Divine Will
there is a sense of ultimate safety, which has led to religious
abasement in many monarchs who could not submit to any merely earthly

＜寸言＞
宗教（宗教家）も政治（政治家）も、人々の恐怖心を利用します。好意的に
（忖度して）言えば、「寄り添います」）。政治家が、政治的な思惑からとは
言え、全国的な宗教団体や宗教「的な」団体と「仲良くする」（親和性がある
）のは人間の恐怖心の利用効果をよく承知している現れでしょうか？ それは
与党も野党もあまり変わりはないですが、与党（自民党）にその傾向大です。
たとえば、神道政治連盟、霊友会、統一教会、幸福の科学、創価学会、日本会
議等々。
因みに、元総理の安倍晋三は、神道政治連盟国会議員懇談会（会長）、日本
会議国会議員懇談会（特別顧問）、みんなで靖国神社に参拝する国会議員の会
などに所属しています。

編集後記 「いつ思いがけないテロ・事故・災害にあうか・・・」
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
このメルマガを編集している時、速報で「（大学入学共通テストの会場の）
東京大学本郷キャンパス内で３人刺される！」という速報が流れました。新型
コロナの影響や、格差の拡大、その他の影響で、テロ行為を誘発する環境が醸
成されています。先日も、大阪の精神科のクリニックで某患者のテロ的行為に
より多数の関係者が死亡した（殺害された）事件がありました。
昨日、JR浦和駅前のパルコ７階にあるさいたま市中央図書館に行きましたが、
図書館へ向かう６階の細い通路で向こうから大きな声で歌いながらこっちにや
ってくる若者？を発見しました。とっさに「おかしな人かもしれない!?」と思
い、踵を返し、５階におり、違うルートで７階の図書館に向かいました。
「おかしな人」ではなかったかも知れませんが、いつ不幸な目に合うかも知
れない状況となっています。いや、急に踵を返すなど、あちらからみれば、こ
ちらこそ「おかしな人」と映ったかもしれません。やれやれ（松下彰良）
