 take up the cause of islanders in general and to argue that, whatever
 else they may be, they are not 'insular' in the ordinarily accepted 
meaning of the term.

Aristotle, in spite of his reputation, is full of absurdities. He says
 that an elephant suffering from insomnia should have its shoulders 
rubbed with salt, olive-oil, and warm wate.

I have spoken already of mental discipline, namely the habit of 
thinking of things at the right time. This has its importance, first

　「私の哲学の基本的見解」
　
　私は今でも、分析はものをゆがめて見ることにはならないと信じている（注：
分析は部分しか見ていないので方法論として誤っているという批判に対する反
論）。私は今でもトートロジー（同義語反復＝論理的真理）以外のいかなる命
題も、もし仮にそれが真であるならば、事実への関係(注；事実の裏付けがあ
ること)によって真であるということ、また事実一般は（人間などの）経験か
ら独立しているものであると信じている。私は経験を欠いている宇宙（注；人
間等の感覚器官を持っている生命体のいない宇宙など）において、不可能なも
のは何物も認めない。反対に、経験は宇宙の非常に小さな部分の極めて狭く宇
宙的には取るに足らない面であると考ぇる。これらすべての事柄（問題）に関
して、カントとヘーゲルの教えを捨てて以来、私の見解は変わっていない。

I still hold that an isolated truth may be quite true. I still hold 
that analysis is not falsification. I still hold that any proposition 
other than a tautology, if it is true, is true in virtue of a relation
 to fact, and that facts in general are independent of experience.
 I see nothing impossible in a universe devoid of experience. On the
 contrary, I think that experience is a very restricted and cosmically
 trivial aspect of a very tiny portion of the universe. On all these 
matters my views have not changed since I abandoned the teachings of
 Kant and Hegel.

＜寸言＞
　　人間は広大な宇宙に比べればちっぽけな存在だという謙虚さが必要だとい
う思い。また、全能の神を想定し、神は特に人間に気をかけているなどと考え
ないほうがよく、「人間はちっぽけな存在だが宇宙について考えることができ
る特別な存在だ」などとうぬぼれて考えないほうがよいとの主張。

　ラッセルのポータルサイト用の公式メルマガ（週刊版）を、本年も予定通
り、休刊することなく発行することができました。
　来年は、１月８日（土）から再開する予定です。（「ラッセルの言葉366_
画像版」の方は年中無休です。）

　メルマガ「ラッセルの英語」（日刊版）のほうは、作業量軽減のため、月
・水・金の週３回に発行回数を減らし、より長期間に渡って刊行し続けるよ
うにしました。
