トランプ氏は言動が変幻自在で、その言葉を真に受けて対峙しても徒労に終わることが少なくありません。世界の指導者たちは彼の真意を探ろうと苦心してきましたが、ようやく彼と正面から向き合うことの危うさに気づき始めたようです。
高市首相も、その限界を薄々感じているはずです。しかし「力による現状変更は認めない」と標榜してきた手前、外交の柱として期待していたトランプ氏自身が既存の国際秩序を揺るがす動きを見せている今、彼女は矛盾の中で沈黙を強いられているように見えます。
保守や右派を自認する人々は「愛国心」を強調しますが、その実態はどうでしょうか。郷土の自然や文化を慈しむ素朴な愛情は尊いものですが、抽象的な「国家」という概念への傾倒は、往々にして暴走を招きます。それは他国だけでなく、自国民をも不幸にする危うさを秘めています。 私は、政治家の自己顕示欲の犠牲になるのは御免です。パフォーマンスに目を奪われ、その背後にある政策の矛盾や危うさを見過ごしてしまう国民が少なくない現状に、強い危機感を抱いています。
Self-Display Masked as "Patriotism": The Contradictions of Trump and the Risks of the Takaichi Administration
Trump’s words and actions are so unpredictable that trying to engage with him sincerely often ends in utter futility. For years, world leaders have struggled to discern his true intentions, but it seems they are finally waking up to the danger and folly of taking him at face value.
Prime Minister Takaichi likely senses this as well. However, having built her platform on the principle of "not tolerating any unilateral changes to the status quo by force," she now finds herself in a bind. Her administration’s linchpin, Trump, is himself attempting various "changes to the status quo," leaving her seemingly paralyzed and unable to speak out.
Those who identify as conservatives or right-wingers always emphasize "patriotism," but do they not, in fact, lack a genuine love for their country? Affection for Japan’s land and culture?as an extension of one's love for their own home?is a positive thing. However, "patriotism" as an abstract love for the "State" is prone to running wild, risking the happiness of not only other nations but its own citizens as well.
I refuse to be a sacrifice for Prime Minister Takaichi’s self-display. It is deeply troubling that many citizens seem to be charmed by her performances?be it drumming or riding a motorcycle?while overlooking the inherent risks.
