なお、玉川大学から出された勝部真長(訳)では、「shocked by the excesses of totalitarians」は「全体主義者があまりに多すぎるのに衝撃を受けて・・・」と訳出されていますが、「excesses」と複数形になっており、「全体主義者達による過剰な行為によって衝撃を受け」が適切な訳であると思われます。
